In a landmark move for Nigerian football, Ibom Air and Akwa United FC have sealed a strategic ₦200 million partnership deal, unveiling the airline as the club’s Official Shirt Sponsor for an initial two-year term.

The signing ceremony, held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, drew key figures from sports, government, and the media.

Ibom Air CEO Mr. George Uriesi described the partnership as part of the airline’s mission to invest in community development and inspire excellence through sports.

“At Ibom Air, we’re proud to support Akwa United’s resurgence. This partnership aligns with our core values — excellence, unity, and progress,” Uriesi said.

Akwa United Chairman Mr. Joseph Eno hailed the sponsorship as “timely and transformative,” noting that it would boost player morale and strengthen the club’s ambitions.

Commissioner for Sports Elder Paul Bassey commended the partnership as a fulfillment of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, which promotes private-sector collaboration in sports.

“This deal is a dream come true — the beginning of a new era for sports in Akwa Ibom,” Bassey said.

The ceremony also featured the unveiling of Akwa United’s new jersey, working committees, and media interactions.

Ibom Air, owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, operates nine aircraft across seven domestic routes and Accra, Ghana.

Akwa United, two-time FA Cup champions and 2021 NPFL winners, continues to fly the state’s flag proudly in national and continental football.
