Bishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha of the Methodist Church Nigeria has issued a stark warning to the government and political class about the potential for widespread unrest due to the growing hunger crisis in the country. In a message titled “Listen to the Cries of the Poor Now to Avert Anarchy,” Bishop Onuoha highlighted the severe food insecurity affecting many Nigerians.

The Bishop emphasized that numerous Nigerians are starving with no hope of securing their next meal. He urged both federal and state governments to move beyond rhetoric and implement effective economic policies to address the dire situation and alleviate the suffering of the masses.

He expressed grave concern that many families in Nigeria struggle to feed even once a day, with some unsure of where their next meal will come from. Bishop Onuoha stressed the urgent need for the government to introduce measures to control the rising prices of food and other essential commodities.

“The faces of hungry Nigerians now look scary and unfriendly because of sustained hunger,” he observed, noting that the visible anger and frustration among the population could lead to major social upheavals. “The look on people’s faces daily portrays anger, vexation, and hunger. Nigerians are passing through a lot to meet the daily demands of their families.”

Drawing from his interactions with people over the past months, Bishop Onuoha underscored the desperate need for immediate action to provide a lifeline for Nigerians. He also called on the political class to recognize the discontent among the populace due to the widespread hunger and take swift, decisive action to address the crisis.
