The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee has summoned the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, to appear before it on March 5, 2024, regarding alleged leakages within the REMITA e-payment solution platform.

Expressing frustration over Cardoso’s absence during previous sittings, the Committee emphasized the authority vested in them to summon individuals and warned of potential arrest if the summons is not honored.

In a sternly worded letter signed by its chairman, Bamidele Salam, the Committee urged Cardoso to comply with the summons, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter and the importance of his personal appearance.

Furthermore, the Committee emphasized that all relevant officers should accompany Cardoso to provide necessary assistance during the hearing session.

Highlighting constitutional provisions, the Committee reiterated the obligation for chief accounting officers to appear in person, stating that representations would not be accepted.

The Committee’s resolve underscores the gravity of the situation and the necessity for accountability in addressing issues related to REMITA leakages.
