The Host Communities Producing Oil, Gas and Pipeline Impacted States Youth Council of Nigeria (HOSTCON Youth Council) has commended the Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited, Mrs Maryam Idrisu, for what it described as strong performance and reforms in Nigeria’s petroleum trading sector. The council, in a statement signed by its National President, Snr. Comr. Emmanuel Fiawei Pathfinder, popularly known as “Gen. Osama”, said Idrisu had demonstrated competence, experience and leadership since assuming office.
The statement was issued during a media interactive session convened by Pathfinder in Abuja, in conjunction with the council’s Board of Trustees.
HOSTCON said Idrisu’s leadership had promoted greater transparency, accountability and professionalism in crude oil trading and other commercial operations.
It said the reforms were contributing to efforts to strengthen and reposition Nigeria’s oil and gas sector while reducing opacity and improving confidence among legitimate industry stakeholders.
The council also commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Idrisu to lead NNPC Trading Limited, describing the appointment as a demonstration of confidence in her professional capacity and experience.
It noted that Idrisu had spent more than three decades in Nigeria’s petroleum industry, serving in several strategic positions within the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and building a reputation for professionalism and leadership.
The council also cited her appointment as Nigeria’s representative on the OPEC Economic Commission Board as further evidence of her role in advancing the country’s interests in the international petroleum industry.
According to HOSTCON, Idrisu’s leadership has supported data-driven market research, pricing and valuation strategies aimed at ensuring that Nigerian crude grades receive competitive commercial value in the international market.
The council said she had also supported contract restructuring and commercial optimisation initiatives designed to improve efficiency, strengthen returns and create greater value for NNPC Limited and the Nigerian economy.
It added that her leadership had promoted stronger coordination among NNPC Trading Limited, government institutions, regulators and other stakeholders in the petroleum trading value chain.
The council said such measures were critical to improving revenue optimisation, investor confidence and Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global energy market.
It described a transparent and professionally managed petroleum trading system as essential to protecting national economic interests and creating a predictable environment for investors and other industry players.
“Her performance demonstrates the value of placing competent, experienced and professionally accomplished Nigerians in critical positions of national responsibility,” the council said.
HOSTCON further urged indigenous and international oil companies, crude buyers, exporters, investors and other stakeholders to support Idrisu and the management of NNPC Trading Limited.
It said such cooperation would help consolidate ongoing reforms, deepen transparency, improve efficiency and create greater value from Nigeria’s petroleum resources.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives promoting transparency, accountability, responsible resource management, economic stability, youth inclusion and sustainable development in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry
