Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR of Anambra State eralier today joined the people of Omor in Ayamelum local government area for the traditional New Yam Festival, a celebration of culture and harvest that further highlighted the bond between the Governor and the community.

The Governor and his entourage were received by the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Chris Oranu at his palace.

“I’ll leave with the blessings of the day,” Governor Soludo expressed, warmly embracing the local customs and the spirit of camaraderie in the air. He conveyed his gratitude for the unwavering support he has received from the people of Omor, recalling his initial experience in the community when he first ran for office of the Governor. “Omor showed me extraordinary love before now, and I will continue to reciprocate,” he stated.

Further addressing the people, the governor reminded them of the significant developments under his administration, such as the ongoing construction of a 30-kilometer stretch of road that, despite delays caused by rain, is expected to be completed within the next dry season. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure in enhancing connectivity and access to various communities, particularly Ayamelum, which he noted has the largest land mass in the state.

Governor Soludo also spoke on his administration’s commitment to the health and educational sectors in Ayamelum. “We have established 11 primary health centers and one of the smart schools in Omor out of the twenty-two,” he revealed, eliciting cheers from the audience. He assured the community of further projects in the pipeline, stating, “A lot of things will still come.”

Highlighting previous discussions with community stakeholders during the gubernatorial campaigns, Soludo affirmed his commitment to fulfilling promises made, including addressing requests for recruitment in areas such as education. “We did so during the teachers’ recruitment, and I am determined to connect Ayamelum to Awka instead of having people go through Igbariam,” he said, emphasizing that cooperation is essential for moving the region forward.

As the festivities continued, bursting with music, laughter, and the sharing of new yam, it was evident that the spirit of unity and progress was at the forefront of the governor’s visit, reinforcing the promise of collaboration between the government and the people of Anambra State. “We can do quite a whole lot for Ayamelum and Anambra state. I am very particular about those forgotten and left behind,” Soludo concluded, solidifying his commitment to inclusive governance.

Speaking earlier, the traditional ruler of Omor, Igwe Chris Oranu, expressed support for Soludo’s administration. “We are known for love and value true friendship,” the Igwe said, reinforcing the community’s commitment to the governor’s re-election bid. “The people of Omor want more dividends from your administration,” he added, urging for continued partnership.

Igwe Oranu also distanced himself and the community from negative online sentiments against the government, stating, “We are not ready to fight the government,” highlighting the deep-rooted ties and contributions Omor has had to various governmental roles in the past.

The event which featured cutting of the new yam, not only celebrated the harvest but also served as a platform for renewed commitment to growth and development within the community, fostering a spirit of collaboration for a brighter future.
