Gov. Zulum pleads with FG to keep Marte safe from Boko Haram militants

    Published on

Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has urged the federal government to implement forceful measures to prevent Boko Haram militants from taking Marte town.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Zulum emphasized that the purpose of his trip to Marte was to promote resilience, community cooperation, and ongoing support for the security forces.

“Marte was resettled approximately four years ago, but regrettably, it was ransacked and displaced once more over the past three days,” he stated.

About 20,000 individuals reportedly left Marte for Dikwa, according to the governor, who warned that the large number posed a problem since allowing them to remain in the camp might make the majority of the younger people more susceptible to insurgency recruiting.

“Thank God, with the help of our volunteers and the Nigerian Army, we made it back to Marte yesterday and stayed the night.

This is the second time the community has been resettled. Nevertheless, I pray to the Nigerian Army and the country’s federal government that we do everything within our power to maintain this town intact.

“Up until now, Marte Local Government has consisted of more than 300 towns and villages. Now that we only have one standing, we risk losing the entire Local Government to the insurgents, which would be extremely annoying, and I don’t think we’ll let that happen.”

“Therefore, I am urging the Nigerian Army and the federal government to work together and maintain our position so that this one town in this LGA can continue to exist,” Zulum stated.

The governor reaffirmed his determination to help security forces bring about enduring peace in Borno State.
