Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has inaugurated the State Council of Emirs, appointing the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmuminu Kabir-Usman, as Chairman.
During the inauguration in Katsina on Tuesday, Radda also announced the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar-Faruk, as Co-Chairman, and Senator Ibrahim Idah, the Wazirin Katsina, as Secretary.
He said Alhaji Sada Salisu-Ruma, the Danwairen Katsina, will serve as Assistant Secretary, with all kingmakers across the emirates as members.
Other members include traditional title holders, non-title holders across the emirates, and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari.
The governor outlined the council’s functions to include advising the state government on Islamic and customary laws, cultural affairs, inter-communal relations, public order and security.
He added that the council would also assist in tax collection, forest conservation, environmental protection and sanitation.
Speaking on behalf of the council, the secretary thanked the governor and pledged full cooperation in protecting the interests of the state and its people.
