Garga Community of Kanam LGA appeals to Governor Mutfwang, Chairman to urgently end banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustlers and destruction of Economy in villages

A concerned youth Alhassan Kabasu CNA has made passionate appeal to the  Executive Governor of Plateau State, the champion of the “Time Is Now” mantra, and the Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Area, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, intervene and rescue the people of Garga environs over incessant attacks ,insecurity bedeviling our people.

With a heavy heart and a deep sense of urgency, we humbly appeal to your offices to take immediate and decisive action against the growing menace of banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and the persistent destruction of livelihoods in Garga and its surrounding communities in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Your Excellency and Honourable Chairman, the people of Garga are in urgent need of your attention, protection, and intervention.

The prevailing security concerns have raised serious fears among residents, farmers, pastoralists, traders, and other hardworking members of our communities. The threats to lives, property, agricultural activities, and economic survival demand immediate and coordinated action from the relevant authorities.

THE HARVEST SEASON IS HERE: OUR FARMERS MUST NOT BECOME VICTIMS

At this critical period, when farmers are preparing to harvest the fruits of their labour, the people of Garga are confronted with the fear that insecurity may rob them of the very resources upon which their survival depends.

For months, our farmers have invested their time, energy, and scarce resources in cultivating their farmlands. They have endured the hardships of the farming season with the hope of feeding their families, educating their children, meeting their financial obligations, and contributing to the food supply and economic development of Plateau State.

Sadly, the threat of banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities places these hopes in jeopardy. When farmers cannot safely access their farmlands, harvest their crops, transport their produce, or sell their agricultural products, the consequences extend beyond individual households. Food security is threatened, rural poverty deepens, businesses suffer, and the entire local economy is weakened.

A farmer who cannot safely harvest the crops he has cultivated is a victim of economic destruction. A community that cannot peacefully engage in farming is a community whose future is under threat.

We therefore appeal to the Plateau State Government and the Kanam Local Government Council not to allow the harvest season to become another period of fear, suffering, and economic loss for the people of Garga

OUR CONCERNS REQUIRE URGENT GOVERNMENT ACTION

Your Excellency and Honourable Chairman, the issues confronting our communities require practical solutions, not merely expressions of sympathy.

We respectfully call for the following urgent interventions:

    1. Immediate Strengthening of Security Presence

We appeal for the urgent deployment and reinforcement of appropriate security personnel to vulnerable communities and identified high-risk areas within Garga and its surroundings. Security operations should be guided by reliable intelligence, coordinated planning, and the protection of innocent residents.

    2. Urgent Measures Against Kidnapping and Banditry

We call for effective measures to prevent abductions, disrupt criminal activities, protect vulnerable residents, and ensure that perpetrators are investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

    3. Protection of Farmers During the Harvest Season

The government and relevant security agencies should work with community leaders and farmers’ representatives to develop practical arrangements that enable farmers to access their farmlands, harvest their crops, and transport their produce without undue fear.

    4. Immediate Action Against Cattle Rustling

We urge the relevant authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, investigate cattle theft, improve the recovery of stolen livestock, and hold those responsible accountable through lawful means. These measures should protect the legitimate livelihoods and property of affected residents.

    5. Improved Security Coordination and Community Engagement

We call for stronger collaboration among the Plateau State Government, Kanam Local Government Council, security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, farmers’ associations, and other relevant stakeholders. Community members must have safe and reliable channels for reporting threats and receiving timely responses.

    6. Support for Affected Families and Communities

We appeal for appropriate assistance to families affected by kidnapping, violence, displacement, livestock theft, and agricultural losses. Such support should include access to relevant emergency assistance, psychosocial support where needed, and measures to restore damaged livelihoods.

YOUR EXCELLENCY, THE TIME IS NOW!

Your Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the “Time Is Now” mantra carries an expectation of timely action and tangible results among citizens who look to their government for protection and the opportunity to live and work in peace.

This appeal is made in that spirit.

The people of Garga are not asking for special privileges. They are asking for the fundamental security that enables citizens to live without fear, cultivate their land, protect their property, raise their children, and contribute meaningfully to society.

We also appeal to the Executive Chairman of Kanam LGA, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, to use the authority and resources available to the local government to intensify engagement with security agencies, community stakeholders, and the Plateau State Government. The local government is strategically positioned to help identify the specific needs of affected communities and ensure that their concerns receive the attention they deserve.

We respectfully urge both leaders to treat the security challenges affecting Garga as an urgent priority, particularly during this crucial agricultural period.

The time to act is now, before more lives are endangered, more families are plunged into hardship, and more agricultural investments are lost.

THE ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES MUST NOT BE IGNORED

Garga and its surrounding communities contribute to the agricultural and economic life of Kanam LGA and Plateau State. The safety of farmers and the protection of their produce are therefore matters of public importance.

When insecurity disrupts farming, its effects spread throughout the community. Farmers lose their investments, traders lose their sources of goods, transporters lose business, households struggle to afford food, and children risk losing access to essential educational and welfare opportunities.

The consequences of persistent insecurity can undermine years of hard work and erode the confidence of people who depend on agriculture for survival.

We must not allow fear to become the defining experience of our rural communities. Nor should hardworking citizens be left to bear alone the burden of criminal activities that threaten their lives and livelihoods.

We believe that a combination of effective security operations, timely intelligence, community cooperation, accountability, and targeted support for affected residents can help restore confidence and protect agricultural activities.

A HUMBLE BUT URGENT CALL FOR ACTION

Your Excellency and Honourable Chairman, history will remember not only the promises made to the people but also the practical steps taken to protect their lives, property, dignity, and livelihoods during difficult times.

We therefore make this passionate appeal with respect, hope, and a strong sense of urgency.

Please hear the concerns of the people of Garga.

Please strengthen the security measures necessary to protect our communities.

Please ensure that farmers can harvest their crops without living under the constant threat of violence, abduction, or theft.

Please work with all relevant stakeholders to address the insecurity affecting our people and restore the confidence required for economic and social life to flourish.

We acknowledge the enormous responsibilities associated with governance and the complexity of addressing insecurity.

LET THE HARVEST SEASON BE A SEASON OF HOPE, NOT A SEASON OF FEAR.

LET OUR FARMLANDS BE PLACES OF PRODUCTIVITY, NOT SOURCES OF DANGER.

LET THE GOVERNMENT’S RESPONSE DEMONSTRATE THAT THE LIVES AND LIVELIHOODS OF THE PEOPLE OF GARGA MATTER.

We remain hopeful that Your Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and the Executive Chairman of Kanam LGA, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, will give this appeal the urgent attention it deserves and take concrete steps to address the security challenges confronting our communities.

May peace return to Garga AREA.

GARGA DESERVES PEACE. KANAM DESERVES SECURITY. OUR FARMERS DESERVE PROTECTION. AND THE TIME TO ACT
