KATSINA – Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, the Governor of Katsina state, has pledged his administration’s commitment to ensuring the full functionality of the Funtua Inland Dry Port. He appealed to the Federal Government to prioritize the rehabilitation of the rail line from Zaria to Funtua to bolster transportation and reduce costs.

Governor Radda made this appeal during the official commissioning of the port, which was conducted by Senator George Akume, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Funtua on Thursday.

“The rail line is vital for transportation and would reduce cost as well facilitate the efficient movement of goods from the dry port,” stated Governor Radda, emphasizing the economic benefits of the port for both the state and the nation at large. He highlighted its potential to mitigate insecurity through job creation for youths.

Additionally, Governor Radda urged the federal government to accelerate the development of the integrated textile and garment park in Funtua, stressing its significance in revitalizing the textile industry, generating employment, and attracting investment.

Furthermore, he advocated for the extension of the AKK Gas pipeline project from Zaria to Funtua to stimulate industrial growth and enhance the overall economy.

Governor Radda also called upon regulatory agencies at the port to demonstrate professionalism and collaboration to ensure efficient operations.

In his address, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Senator George Akume, underscored the importance of the Funtua Dry Port as the third completed and commissioned dry port out of six across the geopolitical zones. He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to prioritizing the completion and utilization of more dry ports to facilitate trade, reduce transportation costs, and improve the ease of doing business.

President Tinubu appealed to the state government and host communities to safeguard the investment as a national asset. He highlighted the government’s focus on rehabilitating roads, rail lines, and waterways to enhance trade efficiency and business operations.
