A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, Mallam Haruna D. Saidu, has described the opposition to former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN’s nomination as the consensus candidate for the PDP national chairmanship position as “mischievous.”
Saidu’s remarks come after the Kebbi State PDP Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo, announced that the party in the state had distanced itself from Turaki’s endorsement.
Saidu, an immediate past member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), expressed “utter dismay” at Dododo’s purported rejection of Turaki’s endorsement.
He described Dododo’s actions as a “hatchet job” and a “desperate attempt to smear Kabiru Turaki’s reputation.”
Saidu noted that Dododo’s opposition to Turaki’s nomination was not surprising, given his history of stirring controversy and running down decent party leaders.
Saidu emphasised that Turaki has been a consistent financier and stabilising figure for the PDP in Kebbi State for over twenty years.
He stressed that the party’s most prominent figures, includkng Turaki and former acting national chairman, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed, have stood firm in defence of the party’s ideals.
Saidu described Dododo’s claims as “malicious” and urged the public to ignore his “rantings.”
The former Kebbi State PDP chairman maintained that the endorsement of Turaki by Northern stakeholders was a recognition of his long-standing commitment, national appeal, and unmatched record of service to the party.
He assured that the PDP in Kebbi State remained united under its tested leaders and would not be distracted by “agents of confusion masquerading as party loyalists.”
