The Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS) has taken a significant step toward strengthening youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process, following a strategic engagement with an international organization focused on civic empowerment.
On Thursday, April 9, 2026, CYMS hosted a delegation from the America Empowerment Institute at its office in a meeting centered on fostering collaboration ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. The visit underscored a shared commitment to increasing youth involvement in governance and civic activities across the country.
Leading the delegation, Country Director Edith Ailemen highlighted the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and tools needed to actively participate in the electoral process. She stated that the America Empowerment Institute is willing to provide technical support to CYMS and connect the organization with broader opportunities through its headquarters in Houston, Texas.
According to Ailemen, the proposed partnership aims to strengthen civic awareness, leadership development, and grassroots mobilization among Nigerian youths, positioning them as key stakeholders in the nation’s democratic future.
In his remarks, the Director General of CYMS, Chief Obinna Nwaka, expressed gratitude to the visiting team for recognizing the organization’s role in youth mobilization. He reaffirmed CYMS’s readiness to collaborate, noting that such partnerships would enhance its capacity to reach more young people and deepen its impact ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting was attended by several key members of CYMS, including Comrade Abdulrasheed Shuaibu, Mrs. Amarah Joseph, Princess Queeneth Ohiri, and Corps member Rose Nwokeocha, among others.
Observers say the engagement reflects a growing trend of international cooperation aimed at promoting inclusive governance and democratic participation in Nigeria. As preparations gradually build toward the 2027 elections, initiatives such as this are expected to play a crucial role in shaping an informed and active youth population.
