Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja-General of Lagos State and daughter of President Bola Tinubu, delivered a speech on Independence Day that has ignited a wide range of reactions from the public. In her address, she encouraged citizens to maintain hope for a better Nigeria, despite the challenges facing the nation, expressing her belief that Nigeria will ultimately thrive for all its people.
Tinubu-Ojo extended warm Independence Day greetings to all Nigerians and conveyed her regards to her father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and her mother, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON. She emphasized the significance of nurturing hope and urged Nigerians to keep the flames of hope alive in their hearts.
However, Tinubu-Ojo’s speech triggered debates among netizens, with some questioning the role in which she addressed the nation. Social media witnessed a variety of reactions:
#codenamemarvus: “Tinubu’s daughter gave her Independence speech. Nigerians do not learn.”
#PO_GrassRootM: “This is Tinubu’s daughter speaking on Independence Day. The question is in what capacity is the daughter of Tinubu speaking? Power-drunken family.”
#abbeyadenrele: “Let’s await the speech of the first son too. And probably the first in-law’s speech will follow.”
#Alagbakenneth: “Get hold of your family and keep their thirst for power supremacy far away from governance and the public domain. Speak of domestic issues privately and leave governance to PBAT. SMH.”
While many criticized Tinubu-Ojo for her Independence Day speech, others came to her defense:
#nytade: “Why is she under fire? Isn’t she free to give her speech as a market women leader? Did she force anyone to tune in to her speech?”
#segunjohnsonno1: “Don’t crucify PBAT’s daughter! Madam Iyaloja general was just making fun, not giving a speech. She is happy, and it can equally happen to any person to feel happy seeing his or her parents atop the affairs of a country.”
