Following successful groundbreaking, Nigerians at home and in the diaspora encouraged to explore mortgage opportunities through FMBN and their mortgage banks to secure homes in Lagos for themselves, their children and families.

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD) is set to open its application platform for eligible and interested Nigerians seeking to own homes under the 5,000 Harmony Renewed Hope Housing Units being developed in partnership with Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The development follows the successful groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Lekki Aviation Town, Yegunda Government Resettlement Scheme, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

With the groundbreaking ceremony concluded, attention is now shifting towards the homeownership application process, as Nigerians seeking residential properties in Lagos for themselves, their children or other family members are encouraged to begin making enquiries through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) or their respective mortgage banks.

Interested applicants may also contact Harmony Gardens directly on 08034775527 for guidance on available housing options, eligibility requirements, documentation and mortgage application procedures.

The housing initiative will deliver 5,000 residential units across Lekki Aviation Town, The Parliament and GranVille Estate within 36 months, providing opportunities for eligible Nigerians at home and abroad to acquire homes along the Lekki-Epe corridor through structured mortgage financing and flexible payment arrangements, subject to applicable financing conditions.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained concerned about Nigeria’s estimated 15 million housing deficit, affecting approximately 120 million Nigerians.

He explained that the Federal Government was considering a nationwide social housing initiative involving the construction of 100 housing units in each local government area, alongside a proposed 100,000-unit housing programme.

According to the Minister, feasibility assessments and costing exercises were underway to accommodate differences in construction costs across states and ensure that the proposed developments respond to the housing needs of Nigerians.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited, Hon. (Dr.) Audullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa, popularly known as Mr-Ibile and the Lagos Landlord, described the partnership with the Federal Government as an important opportunity to make homeownership more accessible through structured and affordable payment arrangements.

He explained that the initiative was designed not merely to construct residential buildings but to develop sustainable communities where Nigerians could own homes through mortgage financing rather than depending entirely on outright payments.

Mosadoluwa particularly encouraged parents who desire to secure homes in Lagos for their children, including those studying, working or planning to settle in the state, to take advantage of the opportunity to explore available housing and mortgage options.

He also called on Nigerians living abroad who intend to return home, retire in Lagos or provide permanent accommodation for their families to begin making enquiries about the programme.

According to him, homeownership should not remain an aspiration reserved for those capable of making full upfront payments, particularly when structured mortgage financing can provide a more practical route for eligible Nigerians to acquire residential properties.

He reaffirmed Harmony Gardens’ commitment to delivering the 5,000 housing units within the agreed 36-month period, supported by essential infrastructure, environmental responsibility and sustainable community planning.

The groundbreaking ceremony attracted prominent traditional rulers who commended the Federal Government’s partnership with Harmony Gardens, describing the collaboration as an important contribution towards addressing Nigeria’s housing challenges.

Among the royal fathers were His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Alamu Kehinde Oloyede Onikosi, Edun Arobadi I, the Onikosi of Ikosi in Kosofe, Lagos State; His Royal Highness, Oba (Dr.) Abdulganiyu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu, Otufesojoye, Adetutu I, the Onirete of Irete-Ijebu Kingdom; and His Royal Majesty, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, Arolugbade Elepe II, the Oloja of Epe Land.

The traditional rulers expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s decision to collaborate with an indigenous real estate developer in expanding access to housing.

They also expressed confidence in Harmony Gardens’ capacity to deliver the project, acknowledging the company’s contributions to residential development, community welfare and infrastructure provision.

The monarchs particularly commended the humanitarian disposition of the company’s Managing Director, his commitment to host communities and his emphasis on environmental care, infrastructure development and improving the living conditions of residents.

They described the partnership as an example of how government collaboration with credible private developers could contribute to housing delivery while creating employment opportunities and supporting local economic activities.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Damola Akinyelure of Metroscape expressed appreciation to the Managing Director of Harmony Gardens for agreeing to undertake the delivery of 5,000 housing units in Lagos State under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope initiative.

Akinyelure acknowledged Mosadoluwa’s contributions to the 4,000 housing units already delivered in Karsana, Abuja, describing his involvement in housing development as significant.

He described the Harmony Gardens boss, popularly known as the Lagos Landlord, as a major player in Nigeria’s real estate industry whose contributions to housing development had not received the level of public recognition they deserved.

According to him, Mosadoluwa’s participation in large-scale residential development demonstrates the important role indigenous private developers can play in supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to address Nigeria’s housing challenges.

The ceremony attracted dignitaries from the National Assembly, federal and Lagos State governments, traditional institutions, the business community and the entertainment industry.

Among those in attendance were Senator Dandutse and the Chairman of the relevant Senate Committee, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Belgore, and the Ministry’s Director responsible for Public-Private Partnerships.

Nine members of the House of Representatives attended, led by Hon. Abdul Mumim, while Hon. Prince Bayo Balogun represented the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, was represented by the Majority Leader, Hon. Noheem Adams.

Other notable personalities included the Olorogun Ado of Lagos, the Olu of Agege, the Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, Reverend Chris Fayioro, High Chief Abolanle Mogaji, Adeyinka Adeleke, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Adeleke, and Fuji music legends Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, and Alhaji Sefiu Alao.

The groundbreaking marks the commencement of a major residential development expected to contribute 5,000 housing units to Lagos State’s housing stock, generate construction-related employment and support the Federal Government’s broader housing delivery programme.

The project also demonstrates the potential of public-private partnerships to mobilise indigenous developers, private investment, construction expertise and mortgage financing towards addressing the housing needs of Nigerians.

NIGERIANS ENCOURAGED TO PREPARE FOR HOMEOWNERSHIP APPLICATIONS

Following the successful groundbreaking ceremony, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is expected to open the official application platform for eligible Nigerians interested in acquiring homes under the Harmony Renewed Hope Housing Programme.

Civil servants, private-sector employees, entrepreneurs, Nigerians living abroad, parents planning for their children’s future and individuals seeking permanent family homes in Lagos are encouraged to begin exploring their eligibility and financing options.

Nigerians who need homes in Lagos for themselves, their children or other family members may contact the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria or enquire through their existing mortgage banks about available mortgage financing arrangements.

Those who require guidance on the application process, available housing categories, documentation and eligibility requirements may also contact Harmony Gardens directly.

    Application Guidance and Enquiries: 08034775527

Formal applications will be subject to the official opening of the Ministry’s platform, applicable eligibility requirements and mortgage approval where financing is required.

The 5,000 Harmony Renewed Hope Housing Units represent another step in the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope housing agenda through collaboration between the Federal Government and indigenous private-sector developers.

For Nigerians who have long desired to own a home in Lagos, or parents seeking to secure a lasting residential asset for their children, the successful groundbreaking presents an opportunity to begin preparing for the next stage of their homeownership journey.
