The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has vowed that the Computer-Based Test (CBT) promotion which it has started for its workforce would be sustained.

It also declared that its workers who absconded from service have also been removed from staff records.

This disclosure was made on Tuesday in Abuja by the Chairman, FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Eze, at the venue of another round of computer- based test it conducted for over 8,000 of its employees which cut across all cadres.

He explained that the CBT being organised for workers was aimed at ensuring that all of them have the skills and efficiency required for modern service delivery, noting that the test is expected to run through five days in batches.

On the issue of the absconded workers, Eze said: “Some people are not really ghosts but they have absconded from duty and if you absconded from duty, it means that you are no longer working.”

He said the FCT Administration had invested heavily on ICT training for workers and had maximum expectations from them in performance and service delivery.

He appealed to the FCT Minister to consider setting up a CBT centre that will be wholly owned by the FCT, adding that the glitches recorded during the test would be addressed.

Also speaking, the acting Head of Service for FCTA, Nancy Sabanti-Nathan, disclosed that the CBT has come to stay for workers, noting that more training would be carried out to ensure that every employee is abreast with all modern innovation and technology.

She acknowledged that participants of the CBT have experienced some challenges, but assured that all of them shall be holistically addressed.

“And on your question whether it has come to stay, yes, it has come to stay. Challenges are always there with us but we always find a way around them. There are challenges but just like you said, the beauty of these things is that the computers are programmed until you start doing something, it will not record your time. So, even if others have gone and you are still around, you can still open your system and finish. It is the system that will tell you that time is up and it will eject you.

“Some of these challenges are the ones that are giving us strength to go back again and look at what we are doing with a view of improving some of these things so that next time it will keep on getting better and better. But the issue of going back, no going back to the old regime,” she added.
