    FCCPC summons Air Peace over non-refund of cancelled flights

    The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned the management of Air Peace following a surge in complaints from passengers over non-refunded fares for cancelled flights.

    In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, said Air Peace must appear before the Commission at its Abuja headquarters on 23 June.

    “The Commission has received a deluge of consumer complaints nationwide regarding Air Peace’s failure to refund passengers for cancelled flights,” the statement said.

    “These actions may violate Sections 130(1)(a) and (b), and 130(2)(b) of the FCCPA 2018, which guarantees consumers timely refunds where service providers fail to deliver booked services.”

    Invoking Sections 32 and 33 of the Act, the FCCPC emphasised that compliance is mandatory. Section 33(3) stipulates penalties for defaulters, including fines or imprisonment.
