‎Former Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has reportedly converted to Islam, after reportedly reciting the Shahadah in Doha, Qatar.

‎

‎The 33-year-old defender, who plays for Qatar Stars League side Al-Ahli, reportedly embraced Islam in Doha, according to Qatari newspaper, Al-Arab, on Wednesday.

‎

‎Islamic scholar, Dr Muhammad Salah, also shared a video on his verified Facebook page showing Troost-Ekong reciting the testimonies of faith.

‎

‎Troost-Ekong, who has represented Nigeria at international level, currently plays in the Qatar Stars League, following his move to Al-Ahli.

‎

‎At international level, Troost-Ekong represented Nigeria from 2015 to 2025, earning 83 caps, and scoring eight goals.

‎

‎He was part of the Super Eagles team that reached the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he was named the tournament’s best player.

‎

‎He also represented Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games, and became one of the country’s most experienced defenders during his international career.
