    Equities market sustains growth, gains N618bn

    The local equities market at the close of trading on Friday sustained appreciated by N618 billion as investors renewed interest in key large cap stocks.

    The market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.69 per cent to N89.960 trillion from N89.342 trillion reported the previous day.

    The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 983.98 basis points to 142133.02 points from 141149.04 points reported the previous day.

    The market rebound reflected a fresh buying in fundamentally strong equities as investors position themselves ahead of third quarter earnings.

    The performance was driven by gains in the shares of MTN Nigeria; GTCO Plc; Stanbic; Nigerian Breweries; Wapco; UBA; Eunisell, and 29 other companies.

    The market breadth was positive with 36 gainers against 22 decliners, bringing year to date return to 38.09 per cent.

    Volume of trades declined by 4.596 billion, representing 90.69 per cent as investors traded 518.661 million shares against 5.475 billion units reported the previous day.

    The value of transactions also went down by 95.69 per cent to settle at N18.050 trillion in 22350 deals.

    An analysis of the investment showed that Thomas Way led the gainers’ table with 10 per cent to close at N3.30 per unit; Eunisell and TIP Plc followed with a gain of 9.98 per cent each to close at N33.60, and N13.22 per share respectively; FTNCocoa added 9.96 per cent to close at N5.96 per unit; Omatek increased by 8.57 per cent to close at N1.14 per share.

    On the contrary, Fidelity Bank topped losers chart, dropping by 10 per cent to close at N18.45 per share; Custodian Insurance trailed with a loss of 8.90 per cent to close at N44.00 per share; Cutix Plc dipped by 8.31 per cent to close at N3.20 per share; Daar Communications fell by 7.02 per cent to close at N1.06 per share; Union Dicon declined by 5.26 per cent to close at N9.00 per share.

    Trading in the shares of Abbey Building Society led market activities with 50.027 units worth N340.191 million; Zenith Bank followed with 38.966 million shares valued at N2.723 billion; Stanbic IBTC exchanged 38.950 million shares cost N4.171 billion; FCMB group traded 32.311 million shares valued at N347.820 million; Sovereign Trust Insurance sold total of 27.259 million shares worth N84.109 million.
