Philip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, announced on Friday that he considers himself an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite his current affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shaibu expressed his disconnect with the party and his alignment with the APC.

In an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Shaibu discussed his support for the APC’s governorship candidate in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo. He clarified that while he remains in the PDP, he feels free to support candidates from other parties.

“In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. The constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and belong to any political party,” Shaibu said.

This statement follows Shaibu’s recent donation of campaign vehicles to Okpebholo, reflecting his growing estrangement from the PDP amid ongoing tensions with Governor Godwin Obaseki, which led to his impeachment as deputy governor. However, an Abuja Federal High Court reinstated Shaibu as deputy governor on Thursday.
