    Defence Minister Matawalle Issues Warning Against Fake News and Troublemakers

    The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has issued a stern warning to groups and individuals engaging in the spread of fake news and hate propaganda aimed at causing unrest in Nigeria. Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the 2023 Chief of Naval Staff Annual Sea Inspection Exercise in Port Harcourt, Matawalle emphasized the potential threat such actions pose to peaceful coexistence among law-abiding citizens.

    The minister urged troublemakers to desist from promoting violence through false information, stating that the Federal Government will not tolerate any behavior that jeopardizes the country’s stability. In response to the prevalence of fake news and hate speech, Matawalle directed security chiefs to remain vigilant and take decisive action against those involved.

    Highlighting the importance of respecting the democratic principles upon which the nation is built, Matawalle emphasized that any action capable of undermining democracy would not be condoned. He stressed the need for citizens to show respect to the President, asserting that such respect would empower the government to take necessary measures for the country’s progress.

    In conclusion, the minister affirmed the commitment of the defence ministry to maintaining peace and tranquility in the country, warning against any conduct that could disrupt the nation’s stability.
