In a recent press statement, the Defence Headquarters has strongly denounced a report published by an online newspaper that claimed the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, had passed away. Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, dismissed the report as unfortunate, unethical, and lacking credibility.
Brigadier General Gusau clarified that General CG Musa is alive and in good health. The Chief of Defence Staff recently returned from an official assignment abroad and has resumed his duties with renewed vigor, continuing to exemplify his exceptional leadership style in advancing the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Following the publication of the false news, the online newspaper has retracted the story and issued an unreserved apology to General CG Musa, his family, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The Defence Headquarters emphasized the importance of responsible and accurate journalism, urging media outlets to verify information before dissemination. The statement also highlighted the need for the public to rely on official sources for accurate and reliable news.
The Chief of Defence Staff’s office has not made any further comments regarding the erroneous report, focusing instead on the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Armed Forces and ensure the safety and security of the nation.
It is crucial that the public remains cautious and discerning when consuming news, especially in today’s fast-paced digital age, where misinformation can spread rapidly. The Defence Headquarters encourages individuals to verify information from trusted sources and refrain from sharing unverified news to maintain the integrity of public discourse.
