Afrobeats singer Davido has named Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the leading artistes he believes could rise to be regarded among the greatest in the Nigerian music industry. The multiple award-winning artiste made the remarks on Wednesday while appearing on comedian Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream, clips of which have since circulated widely on social media.

Asked to name who he considered the next “GOAT” in the industry, Davido said, “Right now, for me, I say, between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema. If you ask me. I think they’ve done exceptionally well.” He added that his assessment focused on male artistes, while acknowledging the achievements of leading female stars.

“Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr, stuff like, I’m talking about males. Those three, killing it, you know what I’m saying,” he said. Davido also spoke warmly about the trio, highlighting their growing global presence.

“Omah Lay, obviously, my brother. Rema, love him so much. Asake, have so much love for him as well. They’re all doing amazingly well,” he said. Emphasising their international impact, the singer added: “Especially like globally. Like it’s just amazing to just be in America and just see them. You know I’m saying. It is not easy o.”

Widely regarded as one of Afrobeats’ most influential figures, Davido has often highlighted the importance of legacy and global impact, as Nigerian music continues to push deeper into mainstream markets worldwide.

The debate around who qualifies as the “greatest of all time” has remained a recurring theme in Afrobeats, especially as the genre continues its rapid global expansion.

With Nigerian artistes increasingly dominating international charts, festivals, and award platforms, conversations have shifted towards who could define the next era of greatness.
