Reforms introduced by the Nigeria Customs Service will strengthen support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, the Revenue Monitoring Group of Nigeria (RMGN) has said.
The group said improvements under Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi have enhanced trade facilitation, improved revenue collection and created a more predictable business environment.
RMGN stated this in a statement jointly signed by its President, Ifeanyi Duruaku and Secretary-General, Tor Lumun, made available on Monday.
It said the reforms have improved efficiency and transparency at ports and borders, helping importers, exporters, manufacturers and freight forwarders with fewer delays.
According to the group, the changes have boosted stakeholders’ confidence in the Federal Government’s economic policies and revenue drive.
It added that businesses benefiting from the improved operating environment are more likely to support continuation of the reforms and Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The group noted that effective port and border operations are critical to promoting commerce, improving business climate and supporting national development.
RMGN commended Adeniyi and the entire Customs team for improving operational efficiency, facilitating legitimate trade, strengthening revenue collection and promoting stakeholder cooperation.
It however urged the Service to sustain reforms by addressing remaining challenges at ports and borders and deepening transparency.
The group said consolidating gains in the Customs sector will sustain trade facilitation improvements and strengthen confidence in government’s economic agenda.
