The Chief Security Officer (CSO), and Chief of Staff to the Sole Administrator of Ahaoda East Local Government Area in Rivers State, Goodluck Ihemnachor, have been invited by the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, for questioning, over last weekend’s attack on their boss.
Ihemnachor was attacked after his reported resignation from the office at the weekend.
He had reportedly resigned his appointment as the Ahoada East Administrator after a letter purportedly signed by him surfaced on social media.
Shortly after, a video emerged showing him surrounded by unidentified individuals, being beaten and allegedly forced to sign a document, sparking widespread speculation.
The Rivers State Police Command, in a statement on Sunday, condemned the assault, describing it as the handiwork of hoodlums allegedly led by officials working under the LG Administrator.
The police alleged that the two officials led a group of miscreants, numbering over 30, to the council secretariat, where they descended on Ihemnachor, carted away official documents, his mobile phone, and other personal belongings, and forced him to sign the purported resignation letter.
The statement, which was signed by the Rivers State Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, explained that the attacked local government administrator was hospitalised as a result of the beating he received.
The statement, titled “Conspiracy/Violent Attack/Assault Occasioning Harm and Stealing: A Condemnable Act”, partly reads: “The Rivers State Police Command is aware and deeply disturbed by the heinous attack on the Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor.
“On 20th June 2025, at about 13:40hrs, a group of hoodlums numbering about thirty, led by Mr. Hector Ekakita—the Chief Security Officer—and the Chief of Staff to the Administrator, respectively, stormed the council secretariat and attacked him. During the attack, the hoodlums assaulted the Sole Administrator, stole his mobile phones, forced him to sign a letter purporting his resignation, and carted away vital official and personal documents from his office.
“The Administrator is currently undergoing medical treatment due to the injuries sustained during the violent attack. He is in stable condition. The Rivers State Police Command unequivocally condemns this reprehensible act and has taken swift action.”
Adepoju, who visited the scene of the incident along with heads of other sister security agencies in the state, directed the Chief Security Officer, Chief of Staff, and all others involved in the attack to report to the State Police Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, for questioning.
