Prominent South-South leader Chief Edwin Clark has demanded the immediate arrest of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following Wike’s recent threats to incite unrest in states governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a press conference held at his Abuja residence on Thursday, Clark urged Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to take swift action against Wike. The call comes after Wike threatened to “set states on fire” if PDP governors transferred the party’s structure to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
Wike’s comments, made during a speech to his supporters in Port Harcourt, included a warning to governors who might consider shifting the party structure away from him. He stated, “Some governors say they will take the structure from us and give it to someone else. I hear they’ve assured them they’ll take the party from us. I pity those governors because I will set their states on fire. When God gives you peace, and you say you don’t want it… Whether you’re in Bauchi or anywhere else, your hands will get burnt. You will never see peace again.”
Clark criticized Wike’s remarks as a serious affront to the authority of President Bola Tinubu and the rule of law. He called on law enforcement to address what he described as Wike’s blatant disregard for national stability and governance.
