China is a one-party system but executes dishonest officials, Kano govt “mocks” Ganduje

    Published on

In what appears to be a pointed response to recent comments by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, advocating for a one-party system in Nigeria, the Kano State Government has issued a subtle yet sharp rebuttal.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director of Press to the Kano State Government, took to his official Facebook page to share a post that indirectly challenges Ganduje’s position.

The post read, “China runs a one-party system & it works for them ~ Ganduje

China also executes corrupt politicians & it works for them very well…. ~ Author unknown”

While the message did not mention Ganduje directly beyond quoting him, the implication has drawn attention from political observers who view it as a critique of both the former governor’s proposal and his record in office.

Ganduje, who previously served as governor of Kano State, recently made headlines for suggesting that Nigeria should adopt a one-party system, citing China’s model as effective.

However, during his tenure as governor, Ganduje was embroiled in a high-profile corruption scandal after a series of videos published by Daily Nigerian allegedly showed him receiving cash bribes from contractors in U.S. dollars.

The videos, which went viral in 2018, sparked public outrage and legal battles that lasted for years.

The Kano State Government’s response appears to highlight the selective comparison and raise questions about accountability.

However, reactions to the post have been mixed. Commenting on the Facebook thread, one user, Mubarak Aminu Hamisu, wrote: “It always makes me laugh when members of Kwankwasiyya Movement mock Ganduje over corruption, because none of you know Kwankwaso better than Ganduje does. Only that your principal is better at covering it than Ganduje. Remember Kwankwaso is currently having a corruption case with EFCC. So, Kwankwaso and Ganduje are two sides of the same coin when it comes to corruption.”

Another Facebook user, Sadeeq Mahmud Abdurrahman, added: “In Nigeria, we have hidden monsters who secretly collect two billion naira monthly for what we don’t know.”

Recall that the immediate past Secretary to the Kano State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, has accused the Kano State Government of approving a monthly payment of two billion naira to former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso—an action he claims he could not support.

According to him, his refusal to endorse the move led to his removal from office.

The development adds a new layer to the ongoing political discourse between Kano’s current leadership and its predecessor, amid wider national debates on governance models and democratic values.
