The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has embarked on a visit to Lagos State on Monday. The purpose of his visit was to consult with key stakeholders and military formations in the state to address the pressing issue of insecurity in the country.
During his courtesy call to the executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Alaus State House, General Musa commended the governor for his efforts in improving the quality of life in Lagos. The CDS expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for hosting Prince Harry and Princess Meghan during their visit to Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of their visit, which prompted the invitation to the duo. General Musa also praised the improved security in Lagos State and applauded the governor for allocating land to the Nigeria Armed Forces Resettlement Centre in Oshodi to enhance agricultural practices.
Furthermore, General Musa discussed his intention to enhance the capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) through large-scale agricultural initiatives. He emphasized that this approach aligns with his people-centered philosophy and pledged the AFN’s commitment to serving all Nigerians. The CDS also sought the support of the Lagos State government in establishing the proposed Invictus Centre, aimed at aiding the recovery process of wounded military personnel and veterans. He commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his remarkable achievements in Lagos.
In response, Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded the military’s steadfastness and acknowledged a significant decline in criminal activities. He expressed gratitude to General Musa for his dedication to ensuring peace and security in Nigeria. The governor affirmed that the CDS’s leadership concept resonates with the state’s philosophy and pledged direct support to the military when necessary.
He also praised the CDS’s initiative to invite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, stating that it would greatly contribute to the mental wellness of wounded soldiers. Governor Sanwo-Olu assured his commitment to supporting the development and construction of the Invictus Centre.
Continuing his visit, General Musa paid a courtesy call to the Oba of Lagos, Chief Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu, at his palace. The CDS expressed gratitude for the traditional ruler’s constant support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and reassured him of the AFN’s determination to secure Lagos. The Oba expressed his appreciation for General Musa’s visit and commended his commitment to achieving security in Nigeria. He also expressed gratitude to the military and other security agencies for making Lagos the most peaceful state in the country.
During his operational visit to military formations in Lagos, the CDS urged personnel to redouble their efforts in combating insecurity and restoring peace across the nation.
