Budget: Tinubu Must Explain Key Issues to Nigerians — Onyekpere

    Published on

Public finance management analyst, Eze Onyekpere, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to explain to Nigerians what is really going on with the national budgets and executions.

Onyekpere made this call on Thursday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television.

He also accused the National Assembly of playing to the gallery, saying the lawmakers also need to explain to Nigerians why they slept on their duties.

“As far as I’m concerned, Mr president should explain to Nigerians what is going on with our budgets and execution. If he can’t do that personally, he should empower the Minister of Finance to do that to Nigerians.

“The National Assembly also needs to explain to Nigerians why they slept on their duties because the budget office is supposed to give us quarterly budget implementation reports.

“They didn’t say anything at the end of the first quarter, they didn’t say anything at the end of the second quarter, nothing said at the end of the third quarter, nothing even said at the end of the fourth quarter.

“And now they are considering 2026 and they want us to take them seriously. First of all, you recall that in August Mr President did tell us that they had surpassed the revenue target for December. As at August they said it was for non oil revenue.

“For 2025, I will think precisely that the resolution of this challenge should be found between Mr. President and the Minister of Finance, rather than even disturbing the Accountant-General of the Federation, who takes instructions,” he said.
