Ahead of the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, slated by 1pm, an earlier meeting of the of Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting scheduled for 10am at the NEC hall, PDP national secretariat, Abuja has been halted.
Security officials were seen chasing BoT members out of the NEC hall, saying that there was an order that no meeting should hold in the hall.
Speaking with journalists on the development, former National Secretary of the party, Ibrahim Tsauri who spoke with journalists on the development said, “When we entered the hall, a police man came to us and said, you cannot hold the meeting here you should go. When we enquired further to know who gave the instructions, he said responded, order from above”.
Former Deputy National Chairman South of the party, Chief Bode George also expressed anger over the situation. Describing PDP as an Iroko, George said that the crisis can only be resolved if stakeholders are allowed to sit down and discuss.
“The landlord was prevented from sitting down and discussing domestic problems, family problems. That doesn’t mean that there are no more other houses. Is this the only building in Abuja. We spoke to some of the policemen who said that actually it is to maintain law and order because of the conflicting notices that emerged yesterday and also that they got an order from above.
“PDP is the only political Iroko tree in this country. You are saying we cannot stand? Can you tell Iroko tree in the bush that it cannot stand? Is it possible?
“This is why we came for the meeting because PDP is not a private enterprise. You don’t resolve it outside. You must sit down”.
Meanwhile several BoT members were seen stranded at the party’s premises but it was learnt that that they are relocating meeting venue to Yar’adua centre.
Recall that the BoT chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara is among the faction controlled by Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde and Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah who are insisting that the 100th NEC must go on. They are also backed by 10 about of 17 members of the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Deputy National Chairman South, Taofeek Arapaja.
Wabara kicked against the return of Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary and further kicked against the cancellation of 100th NEC.
