The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE) has asserted that the declaration of Biafra’s liberation on December 2, 2024, will bring peace and stability to the West African region. Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of BRGIE, made this announcement via his official X handle on Thursday.
This declaration comes amidst threats from the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, who has vowed to arrest and prosecute Ekpa. Despite this, Ekpa emphasized that Biafra’s liberation signifies total freedom from Nigeria and will address the ongoing insecurity in the country.
“In preparation for the declaration of the Restoration of the Independent State of Biafra, BRGIE has engaged a lobbying firm in Washington, DC, to represent the Biafra government effective from June 12, 2024,” Ekpa stated. He added that the marginalization of Biafrans will end from December.
Ekpa believes that the declaration will significantly contribute to regional stability. “As the Biafra Declaration of December 2, 2024, approaches, our objective is to achieve total freedom from Nigeria. This will help restore peace and stability in the entire Sahel region and end terrorism in West Africa,” he said.
He also mentioned that the BRGIE, under his leadership, has hired a prominent lobbying firm in Washington, DC, to represent the Biafra government from June 12, 2024. “Our arms remain wide open to other possibilities across the board. Biafrans are ready to make friends with whoever is willing to help in the liberation; we have no enemies other than elements within the Nigerian state,” Ekpa added.
Approximately three weeks ago, Ekpa’s BRGIE announced that it had taken the Nigerian government to the African Union over issues related to Biafra’s liberation and the continued detention of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Ekpa’s statement underscores the BRGIE’s commitment to achieving Biafra’s independence and highlights the anticipated positive impact on regional security and stability.
