Students of Government Model Secondary School, Ogbia have emerged second runners up, in a national Coding and Robotics competition held in Abuja.

The competition with the theme: Robotics for Climate Action was organized by “Next Robotics Academy”, the official partner of Nigeria’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Four schools from Bayelsa, Ijaw National Academy, Kaiama, Sports Academy Assoama, Government Model Secondary School Ogbia and Government Model Secondary School, Ekeremor were selected to participate in the competition after submitting videos of their projects.

Unfortunately, INA and Sports Academy Assoama couldn’t make it to the final round as their robots developed glitches after performing initial tasks.

GMSS Ekeremor and Ogbia progressed to the finals.

At the collation of results, GMSS Ogbia came out with forty-six point to beat all other schools.

However, the judges penalized the Bayelsa team which was christened Team Voltron with fifteen points for violating some rules, bringing them school to the third position.

Reacting to the results, Executive Secretary of EDTF, Dr Alice Atuwo commended the State representatives at the competition and particularly appreciated Team Voltron for bringing honour to the State in their maiden national competition.

Atuwo said the feat justifies the intervention of the EDTF in coding and robotics training for students in the State and urged them to put in more effort for further opportunities.

At the end of the competition, Future innovators clinched second position while Team Elite emerged winners with thirty-eight points and would be representing Nigeria in the international coding and robotics challenge in the Netherlands.

Team Voltron thanked the State government and the EDTF for sponsoring them to the competition.
