In a shocking incident on Thursday morning, bandits stormed LGEA Primary School in Kuriga (1), Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, kidnapping numerous pupils and teachers. The abduction took place around 8:20 am, immediately after the morning assembly.
According to reports, the headteacher of the school and several other staff members were among those abducted.
Expressing concern over the incident, former Kaduna senator Shehu Sani lamented the tragedy and expressed hope for the safe return of the victims. Sani noted the familiarity of the village with such incidents, referencing a previous abduction and killing that occurred over a month ago.
The relocation of junior and secondary schools to the town’s school building due to security concerns had left the previous school building outside the town abandoned.
Eyewitnesses confirmed the chaos that ensued as most pupils fled their classrooms upon sighting the bandits on the school premises. The abducted victims were reportedly taken into the forest by the bandits.
As of now, there has been no official response from the state government or the police regarding the incident. Furthermore, the exact number of abducted individuals, as stated by the former senator, remains unconfirmed by the authorities.
