Over 150 residents have been displaced after a bandit attack on several villages in the Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The assault, which occurred on Tuesday night, forced inhabitants of Madawa, Cirib Dikko, Cirib Sabon Gari, Qaurare, Tafara, and Tukuyum to abandon their homes.
A security analyst, known as Bakatsine, reported the incident on social media, emphasizing that the displaced people are in urgent need of government assistance.
“Bandit attack in Rara ward villages, Rabah LGA, Sokoto State, last night, forced at least 150 people to flee.
“Villages hit include; Madawa, Cirib Dikko, Cirib Sabon Gari, Qaurare, Tafara and Tukuyum. Survivors urgently need government
aid,” Bakatsine wrote.
The attack in Rabah LGA is not an isolated event but a part of a wider crisis of banditry that has plagued Nigeria’s Northwest for years. Armed gangs, often referred to locally as bandits, regularly raid villages in states like Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna. Operating primarily on motorcycles, these groups carry out acts of violence, including mass killings, looting of property, and the widespread kidnapping of residents for ransom. Their activities have created a pervasive climate of fear, disrupting farming, trade, and daily life for millions.
These attacks are driven by economic motives, with lucrative ransoms serving as a primary source of funding for the criminal groups, according to local sources.
