Ayo Fayose Challenges Critics, Suggests Legal Action for Missing Funds

Ayo Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, has responded strongly to critics demanding an account of his financial dealings during his tenure. In an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Sunday, Fayose urged his detractors to take legal action if they believed money was missing, asserting that he acquired his wealth outside of politics.

When asked if he would disclose details of how he managed state funds as Governor, Fayose dismissed the question as meaningless and reminded his critics that he had already been charged in court. He stated, “How can I be explaining how I spent Ekiti money? I was one governor that never borrowed a dime. Ekiti people cannot forget me for the good works I did. If anybody’s money is missing, let them go to court.”

Fayose and his company, Spotless Investment Limited, are currently facing prosecution for an alleged N6.9 billion fraud. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned him and Spotless on July 2, 2019, on charges related to money laundering and stealing. The trial, which began on October 22, 2018, before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, was adjourned to May 8 and 9, as well as June 6 and 8, 2023, for further proceedings.
