Arokodare shortlisted to replace Lukaku at Napoli

    Published on

Italian Serie A champions Napoli are considering a transfer for Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Partenopei are in the market for a new marksman after their main striker Lukaku sustained a muscle injury which will keep him out of action for most of the first half of the season.

They also don’t have many options, as they sold Giacomo Raspadori to Atletico Madrid two weeks ago. The only striker they have have left Lorenzo Lucca, who they just signed from Udinese.

There aren’t many top strikers who are currently available in the market, as most of them have already made their moves.

So, Napoli do not have a large pool to choose from. And according to Napoli Magazine, Super Eagles striker Arokodare is one of the options they are looking at.

Artem Dovbyk, Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Nicolas Jackson are also options that Napoli could consider.

Tolu Arokodare is coming off a career-best season that saw him contribute 23 goals and seven assists in 45 appearances for Belgian giants Genk.

His brilliance has seen him linked with top clubs like Manchester United, Benfica, and Atalanta this summer. However, none of them has place a bid yet.

The Nigerian has a similar profile to Lukaku. He is big and strong and can hold the ball well.

Arokodare stands at a towering height of 6’6 feet, which also makes him a threat in aerial situations. In fact, he holds a bigger threat in aerial situations than Lukaku.

For a player who is that big, Arokodare uses his feet well, albeit he is not as good as Lukaku. Arokodare also has an impressive shot power.

He will cost Napoli significantly less, as Genk would accept a fee in the region of €25 million. The Super Eagles star is young and would give Napoli at least six years at the peak of his powers.

Nonetheless, even though Arokodare is an enticing option, it would still be a gamble, as he has never played in any of the top five leagues.
