President Bola Tinubu, om Thursday, told the newly swarm in chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), professor Joash Amupitan that the November 8 governorship election in Anambra state will be his first litmus test as he takes charge of the nation’s election monitoring body
The president gave the charge while swearing in the new INEC boss, stating that the forthcoming Anambra governorship election serves as a model of credibility and transparency.
Tinubu emphasised that Amupitan’s appointment which was seemingly confirmed without stress by the senate, signifies confidence from both the executive and legislative arms of government.
He therefore tasked the new INEC chairman to discharge his duties with integrity, dedication, and patriotism, describing his assumption of office as the beginning of a challenging but rewarding journey.
The president maintained that democracy has grown stronger in Nigeria, through institutional reforms and innovations, adding that those values must continue to improve to meet the expectations of the people.
He noted that credible elections are essential to sustaining public trust and deepening democratic governance.
“The significant achievement marked the beginning of a challenging yet rewarding journey and I trust that you will approach your responsibilities with the highest level of integrity, dedication and patriotism,” Tinubu said.
