Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, has strongly refuted allegations against him, asserting that his silence should not be misconstrued as acquiescence. He has addressed the controversy surrounding an audio clip, denouncing it as fabricated and manipulated.
Recently, there were reports indicating that Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, and Tayo Ayinde, Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, were considering legal action against Adams for purportedly implicating them in a plot to assassinate.
In response, Adams emphasized the necessity of clarifying the situation, highlighting that the audio clip in question was distorted and taken out of context. He labeled the threats of legal action by Igboho and Ayinde as part of a concerted effort to tarnish his reputation.
In a statement released by his media aide, Adams reiterated his commitment to defending his integrity and the dignity of his position. He emphasized that his prior silence was a result of ongoing peace initiatives within the Yoruba community, led by figures like the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Addressing the specifics of the audio clip, Adams clarified that it originated from a private conversation in 2021, initiated by an acquaintance seeking reconciliation between himself, Igboho, and others. He stressed that his remarks regarding Igboho and Ayinde were speculative and not intended for public dissemination.
Adams vehemently denied any malicious intent behind his words, particularly concerning Ayinde, whom he referred to as his brother. He reiterated that the allegations against Ayinde were unsubstantiated rumors mentioned in a private capacity.
In conclusion, Adams asserted his commitment to truth and transparency, reaffirming his dedication to upholding the dignity of his name and office.
