All newly matriculated students are expected to register for a vocational skill alongside their course of study for which they will be certificated at the end of third year.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akunwumi in his address at the matriculation ceremony of the new intake held at the Adankolo campus,Lokoja.
“The aim of this is to reduce waiting period for employment after graduation and may even become the graduating students main ocupation after leaving the university.”
The Vice Chancellor also revealed the plans of the University to make the admission into the institution a 60/40 in favour of sciences and mathematics as against Arts.
A total of 3584 students swore the oath of matriculation In the 2021/2022 academic session of the Institution.
The Vice Chancellor maintained that the University has in the last 2years under his administration recorded modest achievements, adding that through hard work and firing from all cylinders, the FUL has made significant contributions to the society, maintaining an efficiently run, self-reliant, workable institution.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed that all infrastructural development projects initiated in the state last 18 months of his administration are progressing according to schedule, mentioned the newly established federal university Lokoja College of Health Sciences, Adankolo which also has its first 100-level student as part of the matriculating students as a reality and dream come true.
While pointing out that the Federal University Lokoja has envisioned a university renowned for its capacity to provide all essential services that students yearn for, become a cynosure of all eyes he called for the excellent performances of the new students.
He advised them to avoid any act of cultism, examination malpractices, indecent dressing, cybercrime (yahoo-yahoo), and other fraudulent practices inimical to their academic progress.
