President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio on Monday morning returned to Nigeria after a brief vacation in London, United Kingdom, dispelling rumours about his health.
His arrival put to rest widespread speculation that he was critically ill and hospitalised in London.
Akpabio had earlier attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva between July 29 and 31, after which he travelled to London for a short vacation.
The Senate President touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 4:00 a.m. and was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.
Speaking to journalists on arrival in Abuja, Akpabio promised Nigerians “robust legislative engagements” when the National Assembly resumes plenary.
He also defended the presence of a strong Nigerian delegation at the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva, assuring citizens of “more derivatives of democratic governance and effective collaboration with the other arms of government.”
The development comes a week after former Ogun State Governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, dismissed reports that Akpabio was hospitalised in London.
Similarly, Jackson Udom, Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, had also denied the claims.
On the speculation surrounding his health, the Senate President quipped: “If you listen to the social media, you will go to war.”
