Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike, widely known as Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, has donated sports kits to journalists in Abuja, while urging them to prioritize regular physical exercise for their health and well-being.
The donation, made at his office in Ilorin, Kwara State, also served as an expression of gratitude for the collaborative efforts between his office and Sobi FM in promoting sports in the region.
Agu-Ejidike, who spoke as a special guest at the final of a sports week organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council in Abuja at the weekend, said lack of fitness could affect the overall human body performance.
He said beyond economic value, sporting knowledge and application help to build mental and physical capacity.
Represented by the National Secretary-General of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, the Pillars of Sports said, “Sports thrives on diverse tripods. That is why it’s for everyone to benefit from,
“If you are not in the active side of Sports, you could explore the aspect that will help you keep body and soul together. Anyone who doesn’t exercise is not doing him or herself good.”
Chief Agu-Ejidike then commended the sports week organising committee of NUJ FCT Council for putting together a laudable football competition geared towards encouraging Journalists and their partners to always keep fit.
The Pillars of Sports, known for his long years of philanthropic gestures in Sports and beyond, donated some of the Sports kits used during the week-long tournament.
At the end, the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) won the competition after defeating National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) via penalty in the final.
In the losers final, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) thrashed NUJ 4-0 to occupy third place.
SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, was among top dignitaries who witnessed the tournament’s Grand Finale at Area 3 playground.
