In a move to drive home their demands, aviation sector unions have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, over the prolonged delay in implementing a new salary structure for workers under the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
A development capable of grounding operations across the country’s aviation sector, the unions have threatened a total withdrawal of NAMA workers’ services if the issue is not resolved.
In a recent joint statement, the unions expressed frustration that, despite concluding negotiations with NAMA management over eight months ago, the agreed salary adjustments remain unimplemented.
The letter was signed by the general secretaries of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
The ultimatum, which expires on August 7, warns of a nationwide service withdrawal if the salary issue is not resolved.
The unions lamented that while negotiations had long been concluded with the agency’s management, the outcome had remained stagnant for eight months.
They stated that their “rank-and-file members,” through their professional associations, had written repeatedly to express their frustration over the delay.
The letter partly reads:
“Recognising that notice of ultimatum has already been issued and served by our branches – which our national unions have adopted – a seven-day notice of withdrawal of services from today, Thursday, the 31st of July, 2025, is hereby issued.”
The unions warned that, upon expiration of the ultimatum, all NAMA workers would commence a total withdrawal of services. They advised every NAMA client to take note of the notice.
