Umuahia, Abia State, is set to host two prestigious para badminton tournaments—the 1st Abia Para Badminton International 2025 and the Africa Para Badminton Championships 2025—between September 30 and October 12.

Sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), the events will attract global athletes to the newly upgraded International Conference Centre (ICC).

Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, said the state has secured hotels, accessible transport, medical support, and security to ensure a world-class experience.

South Africa’s Karin Bester will serve as referee, with Hong Kong’s Chau Yat Kwong as deputy referee. Excitement is high as Abia prepares to welcome the continent’s para badminton elite.
