    Abia, NDPHC partner to construct 15MVA substation

    Abia State government in partnership with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has commenced the construction of a 15 MVA Injection Substation at Ogurube layout in Umuahia, the state capital.

    Governor Alex Otti, revealed the strategic partnership on his X handle on Thursday, stating that the groundbreaking ceremony which happened on Wednesday in Umuahia, marks a major step toward solving the energy challenges facing our people and boosting electricity supply across Umuahia and its environs.

    According to him, “The initiative, combines efforts from both the Federal Government and the Abia State Government to construct: A 7.5 MVA, 33/11 kV substation by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) under the NIPP initiative, and another 7.5 MVA injection substation by the Abia State Government, already captured in our proposed 2026 budget.”

    Otti expressed that his administration is determined to deliver results. He added that the state’s project will be completed within the space of three months (January–March 2026).

    He urged NDPHC to accelerate their schedule so that they can commission both projects by June 2026.

    “I sincerely thank Mr President for broadening the national electricity outlook to include States, private sector players, and international partners. I also appreciate the NDPHC management led by Engr. Jennifer Adighije who was represented by Engr. Bello Babayo Bello for prioritising Abia in this strategic investment. I equally extend my profound gratitude to the distinguished National and State legislative leaders, as well as other senior government officials who honoured us with their presence and support at the event,” he acknowledged.

    “This partnership strengthens our conviction that collaboration is a reliable vehicle for development. Abia State will deploy every resource to ensure the timely completion of these projects, serving the economic and social needs of our people. Additionally, we have concluded arrangements with Heirs Holdings to supply gas to Aba Power Limited, ensuring steady and uninterrupted electricity generation.

    “Reliable power is key to development and progress, and we are here to help bring it to every home and business in Abia State,” he concluded.

    In her remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of NDPHC, Engr. Jennifer Adighibe, described the official groundbreaking for the construction of critical power infrastructure in Umuahia as a significant milestone achieved in expanding electricity access.

    Adighije, represented by the Executive Director, Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, who led the NDPHC delegation alongside other distinguished stakeholders, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable power solutions to communities across Nigeria.

    The project underscores a continued drive to expand access to electricity and support economic growth in Abia State and beyond.
