Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has asked President Bola Tinubu to approve the use of Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, for inauguration of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council ahead of 2027 general elections.
Sowore also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected at the event scheduled for November 11, 2026.
The request was contained in a letter signed by AAC National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena.
The party said the inauguration was part of preparations for 2027 polls, adding that granting the request would demonstrate Federal Government’s commitment to multiparty democracy and political inclusiveness.
It cited arrangements reportedly made for ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for similar political engagement, saying opposition parties deserve equal treatment.
”In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties, we also request provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for 5,000 participants from home and abroad, consistent with arrangements reportedly extended to APC for similar engagement,” the letter said.
AAC said approving the request would show public institutions are available to serve all Nigerians irrespective of political affiliation.
”We believe granting this request would demonstrate Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination,” it added.
The party also requested information on procedures and conditions for securing approval to hold an event at Presidential Villa.
”We look forward to your favourable consideration and would appreciate information on applicable procedures and conditions for its approval,” it said.
The request comes as parties intensify preparations for 2027 elections.
Sowore, publisher and former presidential candidate, has remained vocal in opposition politics, frequently criticising the government.
The Presidency was yet to respond to the letter as at the time of filing this report.
