The Lagos Waste Management Authority has assured residents that waste collection and environmental sanitation are being scaled up across the state despite current operational challenges.
LAWMA gave the assurance Wednesday in a statement on its official X handle, saying both immediate and long-term measures are being implemented to improve service delivery.
Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin said the state government has rolled out interventions to tackle waste management problems and improve evacuation efficiency.
“Current operational challenges are being addressed through measures that include improving access to disposal facilities, optimising transfer loading stations, deploying additional waste collection trucks and strengthening enforcement against indiscriminate waste disposal,” said Gbadegesin.
Despite the challenges, he disclosed that LAWMA processed more than 418,500 tonnes of waste in May 2026. About 3,000 waste blackspots are also being cleared daily to keep the city clean and prevent environmental hazards.
Gbadegesin said the authority is investing in recycling initiatives, waste diversion programmes and new infrastructure to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.
“The interventions are designed not only to improve service delivery but also to create a cleaner and healthier environment for residents,” he said.
LAWMA urged residents to support the state’s sanitation drive by patronising approved Private Sector Participation, PSP, operators and disposing of waste responsibly.
The agency assured that services would continue to improve as the interventions take effect.
“Service delivery will continue to improve as the various interventions take effect,” LAWMA stated.
