Members of the opposition caucus in the 10th House of Representatives have appointed Hon. Frederick Agbedi as the Minority Leader of the House.
This was even as Hon Abdusamad Dasuki was appointed to serve as the Deputy Minority Leader.
The new principal officers were announced by the Speaker, Rt Hon Abbas Tajudeen, during Thursday’s plenary, moments after settling down for the day’s business.
Agbedi, who represents the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, emerged as the new leader of the minority bloc, following a resolution reached by opposition lawmakers as announced by the Speaker.
The twist on opposition was announced by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, during plenary in Abuja.
According to the letter from members of the opposition, Hon. Mansur Soro was appointed the Minority Whip, while Hon. Abdulsamad Dasuki was appointed the Deputy Minority Leader.
Shortly after making the announcement, Speaker Abbas also read a separate letter from Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, in which the lawmaker formally withdrew himself from consideration as a nominee for minority leadership position in the House.
Ugochinyere cited the recent amendment to the House Rules as a major reason for his decision.
