Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) has identified pipeline expansion and effective gas distribution as critical to improving gas access and supporting industrial growth in Nigeria.

According to a statement by Communications Manager, Mrs. Gladys Afam-Anadu, SNG shared lessons from nearly three decades of gas distribution operations at an industry forum in Abuja.

Speaking during a panel session, SNG Managing Director, Ralph Gbobo, said the company’s early investment in gas infrastructure was driven by confidence in Nigeria’s industrial future.

Represented by Head of Gas Distribution, Chukwuka Amos-Ejesi, Gbobo noted that demand was initially low, but sustained commitment has delivered long-term benefits.

He said industrial clusters emerge when demand, supply, infrastructure and commercial certainty align, even if conditions are not perfect from the outset.

Gbobo added that growing gas utilisation strengthens project sustainability and attracts long-term investment into the sector.

Industry stakeholders at the forum called for clear and credible policies to accelerate gas utilisation and support industrialisation across Nigeria.

Gbobo described the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) as a major milestone that reduced uncertainty and strengthened confidence in domestic gas development.

He said provisions such as the Network Code and Domestic Gas Supply Obligation have improved transparency, stability and gas availability in the domestic market.

According to him, clearer pricing frameworks and a more competitive licensing system have further enhanced investor confidence in gas projects.

According to Afam-Anadu, SNG currently serves more than 150 customers across Abia, Bayelsa, Ogun and Rivers states.

She added that the company connected two additional firms in Ogun State to its gas distribution network during the first half of 2026.
The forum, organised by the Association of Local Distributors of Gas (ALDG), focused on strategies for improving gas access and driving industrial development.
