President Bola Tinubu is expected to inaugurate the ongoing 60 Megawatts power plant project being promoted by Bayelsa government when completed.

The power plant earlier scheduled for inauguration in December 2025 and missed another deadline of February 2026.

The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy Mrs Ebiuwou Koku Obiyai told newsmen on Tuesday that following previous missed inauguration deadlines, the state was reluctant to give inauguration dates.

She noted that the power project is at the final stages as the eight generating units have been fully installed while the President has been scheduled to inaugurate the power plant.

“The process of inviting the President has been activated and the gas fired turbine is almost ready. I am glad that you visited the project site and could assess the level of work being done.

“The people of Bayelsa are yearning to have the turbine come onstream and by the grace of God, we have almost reached the point of inauguration,” she said.

Earlier at the project site, Engr Steve Bubagha Site Manager told members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bayelsa that they are at the final stages of the project.

He explained that the eight generating components of the power plant has been installed while the project team is reviewing the work done so far.

“What we are doing now is we are checking what we’ve done we are checking to see that we have not started the test run, I don’t want to use the word commissioning, but all the bolts, all the things we’ve done we are going back to them and cross checking that’s what we are doing now.

“The inauguration of the project is a very sensitive issue and so when we are addressing the problem, we are also very, very careful what we say you’ve been here before, you’ve seen it, and you should be able to deduce and say yes, we have achieved it however, by the mercies of God.”

“We have concluded major network components,” he said.

It was learnt that the eight units of the gas powered power plant is manufactured by General Electric, a United States firm.
