The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a significant enhancement in power generation capabilities, following the successful repair and restoration of the vandalized Lagos-Escravos-Lagos gas supply network by the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC). This development marks a positive stride towards stabilizing electricity supply across the nation and improving grid reliability for millions of consumers.

In recent days, several key thermal power plants have benefited from an enhanced gas supply, allowing for a gradual and measured power offtake. This strategic approach ensures a smooth recovery process while maintaining the stability of both the gas supply network and the national electricity grid. Such measures are crucial in preventing system stress and ensuring that industries, businesses, and households have access to reliable electricity.

Meanwhile, other thermal power plants are on standby, awaiting confirmation of gas supply from their respective suppliers. This confirmation is expected by Saturday, December 27, 2025. Once received, these plants will be integrated into the national grid, further bolstering generation capacity and reducing the risk of outages.

NISO is actively collaborating with power generation companies, gas suppliers, and regulatory bodies to monitor ongoing developments and address any operational challenges as they arise. The organization remains committed to sustaining these improvements, ensuring a resilient power system that underpins Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

In light of these advancements, NISO encourages consumers to continue practicing energy conservation where possible, as efforts to stabilize power supply progress.
