The Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) on Friday donated microbiology equipment to facilitate the accreditation of the Microbiology programmes at the Niger Delta University.

Receiving the equipment at the Faculty of Sciences building, Prof Allen Agih, Vice Chancellor of the University , commended the EDTF for the timely intervention ahead of the visit of the Accreditation Panel of the National Universities Commission (NIC) in the coming week.

He noted that the equipment will enhance the admission quota of the University as more students can now be admitted for undergraduate programmes.
Agih thanked the Bayelsa government for the establishment of the EDTF to intervene in critical areas of need at all levels of educatíon.

High Chief Fidelis Agbiki, Chairman of the EDTF board said that the recently inaugurated board of the EDTF granted the request of the University as the accreditation will expand the openings for Bayelsa students.
Agbiki recalled that the EDTF has historically supported the university, which is the premier state government owned University.

“The EDTF has always supported the Niger Delta University from the first tenure, when we provided internet bandwidth. In the second tenure the EDTF sustained the support.
“When this third board that just got inaugurated received several requests from many institutions including the NDU. We prioritised and approved the request and today we are here to hand over the items,” Agbiki said.
Also speaking Dr Ebienwo Agada listed the items to include microscopes, deep freezers, fridges, autoclave incubators amongst others.

He explained that given the NUC standards , the facilities can handle a capacity of 350 students in one batch for practical sessions in the laboratory.
He noted that equipment will enable the students to have a feeling of practicals and use of equipment students read about but do not see.
