NWFL confirms Castmog Ladies’ relegation over licensing, registration failures

    Published on

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Secretariat has officially affirmed the relegation of Castmog Ladies from the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership after the club failed to fulfil mandatory registration and licensing requirements ahead of the new season.

The confirmation, issued on Monday, November 24, 2025, by NWFL Media Director Samuel Ahmadu, follows a series of earlier warnings to three clubs—including Castmog Ladies—urging them to comply with all regulatory obligations. Despite repeated reminders and an extended window for compliance, the Abeokuta-based side missed the final deadline.

Speaking on the development, NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, disclosed that the Secretariat has already begun restructuring competition logistics and adjusting operational plans to reflect the league’s revised format.

“We have a duty to uphold the integrity of this league, and compliance with licensing and registration procedures is absolutely non-negotiable,” she said.

Shabi stressed that adherence to regulatory benchmarks is essential for maintaining a credible, competitive league framework and for safeguarding the long-term development of women’s football across Nigeria. She added that a revised season calendar, alongside updated operational details, will be made available within days.

“Our priority is to ensure the new season kicks off smoothly on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Updated fixtures will be circulated to all clubs, and we remain committed to transparency and professionalism at every phase of the process,” she assured.

According to the NWFL Secretariat, all other clubs initially flagged for non-compliance successfully met the stipulated requirements within the allotted period, leaving Castmog Ladies as the lone Premiership side unable to meet the compulsory standards.

With the Ogun State club now formally relegated, the Premiership campaign will continue with 19 approved teams. As a result, clubs scheduled to face Castmog Ladies—including Rivers Angels in both their opening and subsequent fixtures—will now have a bye on those matchdays.
